Abstract

This article is about the dangerous effects of nuclear radiation.

 

Living matter is surprisingly sensitive to ionizing radiation. For instance, human beings are killed by a whole body irradiation with so small a dose of Gamma rays or X-rays that the energy absorbed increases the body temperature by as little as one thousandth of a degree Celsius. More primitive animals and plants are somewhat less sensitive and bacteria and viruses even less so
